What was your first job as a journalist?

Intern and then researcher at the Sunday Business Programme on Ireland's Today FM.

How is social media changing news?

By opening up networks that enable a plurality of views to be expressed, quickly.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Twitter or email is the best way to get me.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Avid, Adobe Premier, Sony XD camera, various CMS systems, social media tools.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

My work with the Yazidi activists locating and rescuing those held under ISIS, or my work exposing land grabbing by international companies.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Get technical skills - try and think of where the industry is going to be in five years and what skills will be needed.

The New Yorker.
