All-optical closed-loop control of human cardiomyocyte networks exploiting holographic optogenetics
Abstract Heart diseases can trigger life-threatening arrhythmias by disrupting cardiac contraction wavefront propagation. In contrast to conventional treatments like electrical pacemakers, optogenetics offers high spatial and temporal resolution for non-invasive interrogation and modulation of cellular activity. However, combining sensing and actuation into a real-time control loop remains challenging.
Field-Programmable System-on-Chip-Based Control System for Real-Time Distortion Correction in Optical Imaging
The digital transition requires real-time control of complex systems with short loop time and low latency in various applications. Field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) are, in principle, capable of complying with this task but demand, on the other hand, a high programming effort. In this article, we propose a field-programmable system on chip (FPSoC) as a hybrid solution of an FPGA and a central processing unit (CPU) on a single monolithic die to combine the strengths of both architectures.

Measurement uncertainty analysis of field-programmable gate-array-based, real-time signal processing for ultrasound flow imaging
Research in magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) aims to understand the complex interactions of electrically conductive fluids and magnetic fields. A promising approach for investigating complex instationary flow phenomena are lab-scale experiments with low-melting alloys. They require a noninvasive flow instrumentation for opaque liquids with a high spatiotemporal resolution, a low velocity uncertainty and a long measurement duration.
