How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Via email--I'm a traditionalist. Instagram DMs are strictly for cute cat videos.

What's your favorite social network?

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Start writing. Don't worry about the shape you want your career to take, or landing in the most prestigious outlets.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

An OJ Simpson pop-up museum. Not something I want to glorify.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Under the sea. I'm never happy until I'm doing full mermaid cosplay--sometimes literally.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That I'm on vacation all the time. I wish!
