What was your first job as a journalist?
Part-time proofreader at Newsweek.com -- and that role quickly morphed into assistant producer.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To be a listener, to be a thinker, to be a storyteller ... and to try as hard as you can to employ wisdom in all three roles.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
via Muckrack or Twitter. My email is a pit of despair. If you send me a pitch there, believe me, it will not be found.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Scrivener -- best purchase of my writing life. Todo -- keeps me organized. Notebook. Voice recorder. iPhone.
