What was your first job as a journalist?
Ghostwriter.
Why did you become a journalist?
I realized that I could have a greater impact in this field than in the often very insular creative writing community. It's also more fun.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yes. Mostly got in trouble with teachers for questioning the curriculum.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
My first print piece with Women's Health on how to support survivors of domestic violence. It's a guide so many of us need.
What's your favorite drink?
Ginger beer.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
Domestic violence is a personal, private matter. In reality, it's a public health issue communities must solve together.
