What was your first job as a journalist?
I was an intern at Ms. magazine not too long after I got my Master's. It was an amazing, challenging, and life-affirming experience.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I sure have!
How is social media changing news?
It's making it even harder to keep up, but it's also making it easier to amplify other voices and to hold people in power accountable.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Honestly, I'm really tired of the female journalist trope, but I feel like post-Miranda Priestly Andy Sachs and I could be friends.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I'm fervently devoted to GoogleDocs, and I'd be lost without the Tape A Call app on my phone!

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I didn't! Although I was voted "Most Likely To Become A Politician" and now I write, mostly, about politics, so it's kind come full circle.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Don't take rejection personally. Be prompt in getting back to an editor. ALWAYS be kind to fact checkers!
When's the best time to pitch you?
Anytime works just fine.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Reading a book!
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That feminism is about tearing down men. That couldn't be further from the truth.
