Interview

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes! My dad had one in his office. When I was young, my sister and I would play around on it when we visited him at work.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

You're entrusted with the responsibility at basis of democracy: to inform and educate the electorate. It is not a job to be taken lightly.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

Oh man, anything from this election cycle. #BINDERSFULLOFWOMEN probably takes the cake.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Nothing formal, but in a controlled setting. I don't want to be running out the door and have a writer pitch a story. I want time to digest.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I'm hyper connected to my Apple Products: my MacBook Pro and iPhone, along with anything from the Adobe Creative Suite.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter. It's instrumental in all aspects of story writing: Coming up with pitches, to finding sources, to publicizing the written article.

Who do you wish followed you?

Anyone from any of the news organizations I hope to work for: Boston Globe, NYTimes, MN Star Tribune. Any and all pro journos.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

The brokered convention story. It's the top hit on the site and is used as a example for prospective political journalism students at BU.
