Trajal Harrell «Music Music»
ImPulsTanz 2023: past presence
The imprint of the past on the performance of the present, at the 40th edition of ImPulsTanz Vienna Last year, writing about Impulstanz, I called Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s show Mystery Sonatas/For Rosa ‘one of the most profound experiences’ of the festival. One year later, at the 40th edition of Vienna’s month-long dance marathon, it was the same choreographer who impressed me the most – only this time it was with a 41-year-old piece.
Dance+: Don’t Worry Darling
The tension that Alice experiences – and with her, the spectator – reaches its peak at a party organised by Frank and Shelley. As a surprise to entertain the guests, Shelley introduces burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese, who presents her usual glamorous spectacle, including a sexy and soapy bath in a champagne glass. But even this feather-light entertainment gets chilly as we watch Alice feeling more and more trapped and getting very close to a panic attack.
Lugano Dance Project 2022
I have long envied film journalists for having one of their trade’s most important festivals on the French riviera. But dance professionals – and fans – need not be jealous of Cannes any more, because now there’s Lugano Dance Project, a new international dance festival in Switzerland at a location that easily rivals the Côte d’Azur for scenery and atmosphere.

Dance+: La Joie de Vivre
Dance scene from Norodom Sihanouk’s 1969 Cambodian film, La Joie de Vivre. By Ka Bradley 14/04/19 The 1960s and early 1970s were a golden age for Cambodia’s film and music, a brief crackle of coruscating culture wedged between the 1953 declaration of independence from France and the genocidal Khmer Rouge regime of 1975–79. Spearheading the film industry was the king, Norodom Sihanouk, who made more than 50 films. One of his bubbly stand-outs was 1969’s La Joie de Vivre.
Trash aesthetic: Meet The Symptoms
What were the reactions to the piece back then? DSZ: After our first performance there was a fantastic immediate response: some members of the audience grabbed brooms and helped us clean our ‘props’, our waste, as we make a lot of mess during the show. RSZ: I have an even more powerful memory from the first revival performance at Móricz Zsigmond Square. There were two homeless people who genuinely scared us in the beginning.

Dance+: Mauvais Sang
Skip to content By Anastasios Koukoutas 11/12/18 An intoxicating scene from Leos Carax’s Mauvais Sang embodies the headlong rush of youthful love and the mystery of its memory There are songs, movies, actors that mark us indelibly during our youth. Even though we can’t process those marks profoundly while rushing deliriously into the adult world, they keep coming back, like some sort of somatic memory or reflex. I saw Leos Carax’s 1986 film Mauvais Sang some time in the 1990s.
