How is social media changing news?
I'd say social media is positively impacting the dissemination of news, but not-so-positively affecting its overall quality.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Rory Gilmore. Pre-revival.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To me, journalists are honest, steadfast, and mildly insane. If you have a healthy sleep schedule, journalism is not for you.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
It's not necessarily funny, but I'm a big fan of #OscarsSoWhite.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Enthusiastically and thoughtfully. I don't mind people who are wordy -- that's kind of what we do.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
It depends what the site that's hired me prefers, but I've mainly used WordPress and Google Docs to do my assignments.

Instagram. I love visuals!

Why did you become a journalist?
My dad was a journalist, and my mom was a public defender for the State of Florida. I followed the least terrifying career path of the two.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
My high school didn't have a newspaper, but in fifth grade I did independently publish a fifth-grade "newspaper." I was the only contributor.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
I still am an aspiring journalist, so...clean out your fridge! Bathe your dog more often! Pay attention to your girlfriend!
When's the best time to pitch you?
Late at night. I'll probably be wired and ready to build ideas.
What's your favorite drink?
Non alcoholic? Ginger ale. Alcoholic? Gin and ginger.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
In front of a TV -- or, if I'm at my day job at my local art house cinema, a bigger screen.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
The Tampa Bay Times.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That everyone who loves film cares about the same five directors. I'll take Kelly Reichardt over Martin Scorsese any day.
