Prior Sexual Violence, PTSD Symptoms, and Recovery Trajectories After New Trauma
Prior Sexual Violence, PTSD Symptoms, and Recovery Trajectories After New Trauma Key Points Question Do trajectories of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptom recovery differ based on history of sexual violence?
Associations between residential segregation, ambient air pollution, and hippocampal features in recent trauma survivors
|
Abstract Residential segregation is associated with differential exposure to air pollution. Hippocampus structure and function are highly susceptible to pollutants and associated with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) development. Therefore, we investigated associations between residential segregation, air pollutants, hippocampal neurobiology, and PTSD in recent trauma survivors.

Sequential decreases in basolateral amygdala response to threat predict failure to recover from PTSD - Neuropsychopharmacology
Abstract Amygdala hyperreactivity early-post trauma has been a demonstrable neurobiological correlate of future posttraumautic stress disorder (PTSD). The basolateral amygdala (BLA) particularly is vital for fear memory and threat processing, but BLA functional dynamics following a traumatic event are unexplored. BLA reactivity to threat may be a trait that can predict PTSD and persist over time. Alternatively, BLA responsivity to threat cues may change over time and be related to PTSD severity.

Brain dynamics reflecting an intra-network brain state are associated with increased post-traumatic stress symptoms in the early aftermath of trauma - Nature Mental Health
|
Abstract Post-traumatic stress (PTS) encompasses a range of psychological responses following trauma, which may lead to more severe outcomes such as post-traumatic-stress disorder (PTSD). Identifying early neuroimaging biomarkers that link brain function to PTS outcomes is critical for understanding PTSD risk. This longitudinal study examines the association between brain dynamic functional network connectivity and current/future PTS symptom severity, and the impact of sex on this relationship.

Defining the r factor for post-trauma resilience and its neural predictors - Nature Mental Health
|
Abstract Although resilience is a dynamic process of recovery after trauma, in most studies it is conceptualized as the absence of specific psychopathology following trauma.

Disentangling sex differences in PTSD risk factors - Nature Mental Health
Abstract Despite extensive research on sex/gender differences in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), underlying mechanisms are still not fully understood. Here we present a systematic overview of three sex/gender-related risk pathways.

Mapping Oral health and Local Area Resources (MOLAR): protocol for a randomised controlled trial connecting emergency department patients with social and dental resources
Enrolment will be conducted by trained English and/or Spanish-speaking RAs who are certified as Qualified Bilingual Staff or use the clinical interpreter service if non-bilingual. We will use time-shift sampling to balance recruitment across areas of the EDs, time of day and day of week to limit bias in recruitment. RAs will complete study forms in REDCap on iPads or laptops depending on site resources.
Association between microbiome and the development of adverse posttraumatic neuropsychiatric sequelae after traumatic stress exposure - Translational Psychiatry
Abstract Patients exposed to trauma often experience high rates of adverse post-traumatic neuropsychiatric sequelae (APNS). The biological mechanisms promoting APNS are currently unknown, but the microbiota-gut-brain axis offers an avenue to understanding mechanisms as well as possibilities for intervention. Microbiome composition after trauma exposure has been poorly examined regarding neuropsychiatric outcomes.

To our knowledge, these data represent the largest published longitudinal cohort of survivors of MVC, one of the most common life-threatening traumatic stress exposures in industrialized nations. Study participants were recruited at the time of ED presentation and assessed during the initial eight weeks after the MVC trauma.
