Fortune Tech: OpenAI bugging case comes to court
Good morning. Now that Elon Musk has promised one share of SpaceX for every American child, and Anthropic has pledged 5% of its shares to a public benefit fund, other tech companies might be thinking about how to start “giving back.” An iPhone Duo in every pot could be a nice gesture by Apple. And maybe Google could lift the storage limits on our Gmail accounts? Today’s tech news below. —Alexei Oreskovic Thoughts? Suggestions? Hot tip? Drop me a line.
The AI boom is sending Silicon Valley back to the future with a massive, $5 billion facility for advanced AI chips Original

Good morning. Did you hear about China’s robocop? The 6-foot-2-inch droid, deputized by the authorities in Hangzhou, is more mall cop than terminator (its limited duties include waving traffic and admonishing jaywalkers). But following Wednesday’s blockbuster IPO of Unitree, a Chinese robotics company whose shares popped 460% on their first day trading, it’s clear that China is having a humanoid moment.

Fortune Tech: OpenAI's friction, Coreweave's backlog, Brad Lightcap departure
If you’ve ever worked at a company with more than say, a couple dozen employees, you’ve probably been frustrated by some of the bureaucratic bottlenecks. It’s part of the reason many people in tech like to work at startups (well, that and the potential IPO jackpot). At OpenAI, employees have a magic word to eliminate logjams and cut through the red tape that develops as the company gets larger. It’s called “friction,” and it even has the power to summon CEO Sam Altman.

Good morning. Sting famously sang about “sending out an S-O-S.” You might not hear the tune on Mark Zuckerberg’s superyacht though. Alas, the Launchpad’s crew did not respond to the request, and a nearby cruise ship came to the rescue instead, towing the skiff back to port.

Even Apple couldn't escape the memory chip 'RAM-ageddon' crisis. Here's why PC prices are soaring this summer Original
On Monday, an Apple MacBook Pro laptop cost $1,699. On Thursday, it cost $1,999. Apple didn’t launch a spiffier, more powerful new version of the laptop; the $1,999 machine is exactly the same as the one that sold for $300 less a few days earlier. Similarly, the MacBook Neo—introduced in March as Apple’s budget option—saw its price tag increase from $599 to $699 this past week. Welcome to “RAM-ageddon,” the theatrically named phenomenon caused by a severe shortage of computer memory chips.
Getting past the pilot: Why so many AI test projects have trouble scaling
It’s an increasingly common tale within corporations today: The AI project performs admirably in testing during the pilot phase, gets the green light for a broader rollout…and then stops working properly; Or it fails to deliver the expected business results. Finger pointing, recriminations, and embarrassment ensue. The problem is not always the technology.
How to run a company when the AI agents vastly outnumber the humans
Having a “human in the loop” is the typical recommendation for organizations using artificial intelligence for jobs in which there’s no margin for error. But what happens when it’s just not possible to keep a human in the loop? As the use of AI ramps up within organizations and as businesses delegate more tasks to agentic AI, it’s a challenge that many corporate leaders are starting to grapple with.

Citi, Ford, and Experian share their strategies for scaling AI agents
“To be able to trust, you need to be able to see what is happening.” This seemingly simple maxim is at the heart of today’s AI rollouts across the business landscape, according to Laura Heisman, the chief marketing officer of Dynatrace. “That’s probably the biggest conversation that everybody is having across all industries. We hear it from our customers every day,” Heisman said recently on a panel at Fortune’s Brainstorm Tech conference. “The big question is, can you trust it? Is it right?
Agentic AI systems are doing more and more work. Now humans need to figure out how to verify it all | Fortune
From hallucinations to rogue agents, there are some very clear risks that come with using AI. And yet, most businesses cannot afford to sit out the AI revolution. Managing this thorny reality is a fundamental challenge for business leaders today, and executives at several leading companies came together to share their insights and experience at Fortune Brainstorm Tech in Apsen, Colorado. At the top of the priority list is accountability.
