Preparation of Cellulose‐Based Planar Ag Substrates Synthesised Using Tollens' Process: Steps Towards Green SERS
1 Introduction SERS is a method that has been widely studied over the last decades. It is based on an interaction of the analyte and substrate surface (most typically plasmonic nanoparticles of Ag or Au) under laser irradiation. Under the laser beam, the optical field around nanoparticle or their aggregates can be strongly amplified due to localised surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), which results in subsequent enhancements of the analyte Raman signal.
E. coli and S. aureus resist silver nanoparticles via an identical mechanism, but through different pathways - Communications Biology
Abstract Nanostructured materials with antibacterial activity face the same threat as conventional antibiotics - bacterial resistance, which reduces their effectiveness. However, unlike antibiotics, research into the emergence and mechanisms of bacterial resistance to antibacterial nanomaterials is still in its early stages.
Bacterial resistance to silver nanoparticles and how to overcome it
Silver nanoparticles have already been successfully applied in various biomedical and antimicrobial technologies and products used in everyday life. Although bacterial resistance to antibiotics has been extensively discussed in the literature, the possible development of resistance to silver nanoparticles has not been fully explored. We report that the Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli 013, Pseudomonas aeruginosa CCM 3955 and E.
