Lily Cohen’s Biography

I have always gravitated towards storytelling. Early on, my love for stories manifested itself in creative writing classes in elementary school - where I built intricate fantasy worlds inspired by the books I was reading. By middle school, I had become enamored with performance - participating in musicals and plays at a local children's theater. Iambic Pentameter became the beat to which I marched through high school, as I relished in the chance to make others feel and see the world as the written word came to life at my manipulation. It should be no surprise then that I was attracted to broadcasting and journalism during my undergraduate career at the University of Pittsburgh. During my time as a Pitt Panther, I studied Media and Professional Communications with a minor in Spanish and a certificate in Television and Broadcast Arts. Participating in Pitt's broadcast program combined my love of writing and my love of visual storytelling in a fact-based environment. While I will always argue that there is truth in the often fictitious worlds of literary and theater arts, the truth in news has its own kind of beauty. Bringing important information to people in an entertaining and interesting way is an art all its own, an art that I am ready to tackle and look forward to grasping as I make my way in the media industry.
