What was your first job as a journalist?

As an intern fact-checker for the Nation Magazine right out of college.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes and love it!

How is social media changing news?

It’s allowed for more voices to join in and be heard which is a double edged sword.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

#ifslaverywasachoice in response to Kanye West’s poorly worded talk on the state of Black people in America.

Why did you become a journalist?

Storytelling is how we survive.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Yes! I was the opinions editor!

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I’m most proud of my piece in the Boston Globe about the gap in our collective history concerning racist violence.

What's your favorite drink?

Ginger ale or club soda with lime.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

The New Yorker

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That there’s no humor to be found in social movement issues.
