What was your first job as a journalist?
Teen correspondent for a local newspaper in HS.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
In college, but I have one sitting next to me now.
How is social media changing news?
Everyone can be a reporter. Negatively, though, it's harder to know what reporting to trust.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
The real ones are so interesting, who needs fictional characters?
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It's about being curious and digging until you get to the bottom of the story -- the truth.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Email.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Microsoft, Adobe and Apple products. Zoom. Monday.com. Grammarly. Wordpress and other CMS systems. Workfront. Co-Pilot, Chat GPT, Claude AIs.
What's your favorite social network?
Instagram and Substack.

Why did you become a journalist?
I am a born storyteller.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
In high school, I dabbled in pieces here and there. I was actually a correspondent for a local and got paid for pieces in HS.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I have written thousands of stories I am proud of. The service pieces that help people make me most happy.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Be flexible. Media is constantly evolving.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Midday
What's the best pitch you ever got?
There are so many that I've poked fun of. I'm sure the best pitches were the ones that became stories.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
Any pitch that starts with "What are you working on?" Please retire that phrase.
What's your favorite drink?
Kombucha, flavored seltzer and bourbon and soda.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
In the kitchen or taking in NYC.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I love The Lily and AARP's Girlfriend.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
Reporting on lifestyle topics does not preclude you from knowing about and reporting on more serious issues.
