Lisa Steacy’s Biography

Whether writing breaking news or features, I pride myself on bringing compassion and context to the stories I tell.

My top-performing stories rarely come from press releases, press conferences, government meetings, or court cases – although I can cover all of those things.

From breaking the story about B.C.'s deadliest COVID-19 outbreak, to writing a viral story about a Vancouver realtor who picked a property clean of fruit during an open house, to searching out examples of people trying to bring joy and comfort to one another during crises – I find and tell stories that centre people, not events.

I try to amplify the voices of marginalized people whose stories have long been dismissed and overlooked. After spending nearly a decade answering a rape crisis line, I got into journalism because I was inspired by the power and potential for reporting to effect change.

I have been recognized by my managing editors for tackling difficult stories with sensitivity and nuance
