What was your first job as a journalist?

I worked as an unpaid intern at a daily city newspaper. I loved it because I honed my research, interviewing and writing skills.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yep! I received an electric Smith-Corona as a college graduation gift. I felt SO professional!

How is social media changing news?

Sometimes, it actually creates news. But it also speeds up news, creates an interactive dialogue about news, and adds to its complexity.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

Mary Richards from the Mary Tyler Moore TV show

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To uncover the truth, share it with readers in an engaging way, and make a positive difference in this world.

Buffer, Trello, MailChimp, Canva, Pocket, Calendly, OneNote, DropBox, HARO, PicJumbo, Grammarly

Why did you become a journalist?

I love to write, to find the heart of every story, to focus on the good in the world, to make people laugh, and to make a difference.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

An article for Orlando Family highlighting the amazing, positive response of local nonprofits after the Pulse Nightclub mass shooting.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Find your own voice, write about your passions, and never stop learning.

What's your favorite drink?

Coffee followed closely by red zinfandel.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Reading books and magazines to stay current on topics, trends, and content ideas; volunteering; at the gym; shuttling my teens around.
