What was your first job as a journalist?
I wrote a few articles for Fit and Fit Yoga magazines.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I wrote on a typewriter in high school. It's charming but I wouldn't want to go back to the days before auto correct.
How is social media changing news?
You can be selective about what you see in your feeds. If you unfriend all of your Republican friends, you'll only see the Democrats side.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Carrie Bradshaw as she found the humor in dealing with dating, relationships, and divorce. I strive to write the fun in dysfunction.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
I write on my MacBook Pro so I use Pages to write and when I'm writing scripts I use Final Draft.
What's your favorite social network?
I've recently become more active on Instagram but I like to see what my family in Michigan is up to on Facebook. For politics I read Twitter.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I did work at my high school newspaper and I wrote articles and took photographs. I learned to use a darkroom in eleventh grade.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I like to help people so whenever I'm asked to write about cancer, I'm proud that I can offer advice and my perspective as a cancer survivor.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
I'm most likely hiking or catching up with friends.
