The most memorable animal performances in film
Image source: Ludwig Photo, Wikimedia Commons, public domain One of my favourite animals to appear in cinema is the monkey from Raiders of the Lost Ark. As far as Nazis go, he’s not the worst, but he really put on a show to convince us that he was working for the Führer. When he gets poisoned and plays dead, his performance is so convincing that I almost believe he could understand his role. Continuing with the monkey theme, Crystal the Capuchin has not just one appearance, but a whole filmography.
Northumberland walks accessible from the city centre
If you want to get to Northumberland from Newcastle, you’re quite limited to two main routes - either the bus or train directly west towards Carlisle, or the bus/train north past Morpeth and Alnwick. Heading west, you can catch the Northern train service to Bardon Mill. It’s about £10 if you have a 16-25 Railcard (which is something I think everyone should take advantage of!) for an open return, meaning you don’t have to stress about being back to the station for a certain time.
Newcastle food markets: everything you need to know
Image credit: Ruby Tinkler The Quayside market runs all the way from the Millennium bridge down to the swing bridge and I think boasts the largest variety of food stands on this list. A personal favourite of mine is the Big Fat Indian Kitchen which offers up dirty Indian fries topped with either chicken or paneer, and masala naan wraps; the chickpea and paneer one is so good, albeit messy.
New urgent dental hubs aim to relieve pressure on NHS services
Source: Lekoh, Wikimedia Commons, https://pixabay.com/service/license-summary/ The introduction of one such centre in North Shields late last year was the final site to be opened in the North East. The scheme is planned to provide upwards of 100,000 appointments per year and is focused on areas with particularly low NHS dental access.
Met office has verdict on why the North East has been so rainy
Image source: Wikimedia commons, Tomascastelazo Experts from the Met Office say a number of low-pressure systems from the Atlantic were to blame for the prolonged wet weather with Storms Goretti and Chandra being a result of this. We can thank the jet stream for the delivery of these low-pressure systems.

Chat GPT is probably the most common, but X, google and basically every other social media platform have their own model.
Memory card- RollerCoaster Tycoon 3
Image Source- Boris23 via Wikimedia Commons https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rollercoaster_Tornado_Avonturenpark_Hellendoorn_Netherlands.jpg The main concept of the game was to build a successful theme park where guests could ride the rides, buy food and drink, and use the various amenities that you need to place to meet their needs. The platinum edition also included waterslides and a zoo expansion which to my 10-year-old brain was more excitement than I could possibly comprehend.
Binging vs Weekly Episodes
Weekly releases aim to try and build hype and anticipation for the show, with viewer engagement expected to rise. Whilst this is definitely true, as seen in Season 5 of Stranger Things, it could also be argued that it is merely a way for streaming services to make sure viewers pay for another month of their subscription.
National Trust sites near Newcastle

The island itself is separated from the mainland by a tidal causeway and has recently featured in the 28 Years Later (2025) films. The castle on Holy Island is a National Trust property, and was built in 1550 using stone from the dismantled monastery.
Fallout series 2: what happens next?
Sign up to our mailing list so you never miss any future updates Image source: Jerry Kavan, Unsplash I’m personally very excited to see Norm and Lucy reunited. The two siblings have managed to take on the wasteland and they both share a sense of justice which clearly hasn’t come from their father. With Norm and Claudia forming a bond on the surface, it opens up a lot of ways for the plot to go.
Jeffery Epstein sent explicit images of Five nights at Freddy’s characters via email and was even subscribed to Game Theory.

Epstein had responded to a fnaf post on 4chan with an explicit image of the character Mercy from overwatch, proving the rumour incorrect, but is also still insane.
Has Letterboxd commodified film?

Festive cheeses to get you prepared for the flat Christmas dinner
First on the list has got to be a camembert. If you cut a grid into the top layer, pop some garlic and rosemary in, drizzle it with honey, and bake it in the oven, you’re left with this gooey pot of deliciousness that you can go crazy with. Choosing what to dip in your camembert is an adventure in itself.
Newcastle Christmas markets - what can the foodies expect?

They are perfect to warm you up while you explore the rest of the markets. 'Sprinkled' are regulars at the Tynemouth markets and serve a huge variety of handmade cupcakes topped with all sorts of goodies and I’m sure they’ll have some fun Christmas themed cakes as well.

Most well known for his roles in Mr Bean (1990) and Blackadder (1983), the comic has an extensive portfolio dating from 1978.
The Spotify decline - why are people moving away from the streaming platform?
Firstly, is the issue of artist compensation. With each stream paying artists about $0.004 on average, many listeners feel that there are other ways to support their favourite musicians. Alongside the fact that artist must have 1000 minimum streams in the past 12 months, it makes the platform quite unappealing for emerging talent, especially when compared to Apple music, which has no minimum number of streams and pays a much more generous $0.01 per stream (2.5x more than Spotify).
Is the cop show market too dense?
The number of cop shows is ever increasing with a huge range of shows such as The Rookie (2018), 9-1-1 (2018), and Line of Duty (2012) exploding in popularity in recent years. But in a time where support for the police is dwindling, do we need any more shows glamorising law enforcement? One category of police shows is the typical American cop show where there’s a crime, some kind of ‘genius’ solution, and a resolution where the good guys win and everybody is happy.
Foods that should taste the same...but don't
Sign up to our mailing list so you never miss any future updates Image source: Jane Korsak, Unsplash A big contender in this weird category of foods that should taste the same is those combo mixes of crisps. Whether you’re a fan of the tubes or the wavy shells, I’m sure you can agree that no two crisps have the same taste.

Scenic Stops: top bus trips around the North East
First on the list is Alnwick. This historic market town boasts a range of cosy things to see this autumn. The X15 bus from Haymarket takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes and takes you right into the centre of the town. The stunning Alnwick castle is steeped in history, and you might recognise it from one of the many films or TV shows filmed there including Harry Potter, Downton Abbey, and Transformers- The Last Knight.
