What was your first job as a journalist?
I covered the life of other junior enlisted soldiers at Fort Bragg before representing an air defense unit scheduled to go to Iraq.
How is social media changing news?
It's worsening the signal-to-noise ratio while also democratizing it.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Remote interviews and web research are my bread and butter. But I have a camera and a car and would love to come in person for great stories.
Why did you become a journalist?
The Army gave me a great education bonus to become one, honestly. When it gave me access to infantry and air defense experts, I was hooked.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Have the audacity. I know it's scary, but reach out to experts, submit your work, take your seat at the table.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Running with my daughter or dog, on a photography trip, or digging in my neighborhood to improve drainage.
