1 INTRODUCTION Polymeric fibers have become an indispensable portion of human life. The existence of polymer fibers in the form of cobwebs, cocoons, wool, jute, and cotton fabrics, dates to around 100 million years ago. During primeval days, polymeric fibers were produced through spindles.1 With civilization and technological advancements, several advanced technologies including wet, dry, melt, and gel spinning were explored for fiber production.
