Discussion Thread on Lurssen Kismet II Review...
C0ngratulation to Judy and YF for this review. Well done, indeed. Kismet II is a spectacular yacht regardless if you like her interior style or not. To bad YF was not allowed to take its own pictures. But most likely the management company or the ownership had sold the exclusive rights of making pictures to this photographer. From what I have heard, this ownership was not very easy to deal with.
Yanmar 6ly2a-stp 440 problems
October 4, 2010 Dear SanJuan Owner, It has recently come to our attention that there may be a potential problem with the Yanmar engines in your SanJuan. There have been several failures in the 6LY2A-STP 440 hp engines apparently due to defective valves. Even with all regular maintenance having been performed, the engines can fail without any warning, generally requiring replacing the entire engine, a very costly job, to say nothing about losing precious boating time.
Hull Paint: Alexseal or Awlgrip
Hi, Airship - I would suggest that if you are so sure that AWLGRIP have no problems you call the Global Head Ken Hickling and ask him what they are doing about all the problems he says Awl Grip have no idea how to address. AwlGrip used to be an excellent paint , they changed the formula to a more environmentally friendly one and the problems started. The biggest and most noticeable problem today is the DOI -Distinction of Image.

An objective opinion on Azimuts...
I did a delivery on a 68 Azimut twice a few years ago. Nice boat, fast, handeled well. Very pretty and comfortable. However, on one of the trips it was a little bumpy, 5-6 foot seas. She pounded a lot at cruise, had to slow down. Many cabinets opened and spilled contents. The salon headliner came off as well. No serious damage and it was a near brand new boat. You always need to get some kinks out.
Motor Sailers by Philip Rhodes & John Alden
the Virginia Reels, 44 I always considered these 44 footers as the begining of his motorsailer designs Among the better known of Philip Rhodes’ many motorsailer designs are the Virginia Reels, two seagoing, sloop-rigged, cruiser-fishermen designed for Arthur M. Stoner of Madison, Connecticut. These boats might be considered 30/70 types, with roughly 30 percent of their propulsion sail and about 70 percent, power.
Boats arriving in Mallorca
Discussion in 'General Yachting Discussion' started by GrahamF, . Hi all. Here are some boats that are in Mallorca at the moment. I saw a Dockwise in the port today an noticed some new arrivals. Will take some photos of the new arrivals tomorrow Nice pics, Graham. Hope the sun comes out soon! Thanks Loren Me to. The weather has been very strange here lately. They are expecting snow on mainland Spain either today or tomorrow. I really miss the Florida winters.
Motor & Sailing Vessels (MotorSailer)
Ted Hood’s new Expedition 55 I've always had great respect for this gentleman Ted Hood, so it was with great interest that I read of his latest project, the Expedition 55, in the Oct issue of Cruising World magazine. What is most interesting is the apparent reluctance to use the term 'motorsailer'. Instead the popular notion tends to be to call them expedition yachts….long range yachts "as capable under power as under sail".

Living on a Yacht?
Few people can offer greater wisdom than Sailronin on this subject, but you’ve raised a question that more people are beginning to ask. With the price of waterfront property exceeding the cost of many yachts, the live-aboard concept is becoming an option that more people are beginning to consider. Much of this decision rests on your priorities (and abilities)… Yachting is a unique lifestyle. It may cost more than conventional housing, but there are many aspects that are beyond compare.
