We’ve all seen the polished campaign text messages by now, asking us to approve Measure A, as though it were just a narrow administrative proposal about how vacancies on the Board of Supervisors are filled. This is very misleading. Measure A would fundamentally rewrite Kern County’s governing structure by converting the county into a California charter county — a major constitutional and political change being packaged as a minor administrative fix.
