Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
I consider my first job was as a paperboy, delivering a local daily on foot. Next was as a beat reporter for credits in journalism school.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Oh, yes. Walked into my first journalism class at Syracuse University and there was a shiny typewriter on every desk.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
I believe to a certain level, all journalism has to be what we used to call "investigative." You have to dig deep to be helpful to readers.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Quite sparse on the tools side of journalism. I interview professionals by the usual video tools, and write simply in Word on a MacBook Air.
What's your favorite social network?
Currently, I stick to LinkedIn for posting my editorials, and other selected content from OutsourcedPharma.com. I'm also a sparse user of X.
Who do you wish followed you?
Nobody specific. Any drug/therapy development professional in the bio/pharma industry. My editorials can help you with your outsourcing.
Why did you become a journalist?
A recognized ability to write; an interest in learning what was really happening around me. (Watergate had something to do with it, too.)
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Most recently, this one because (as many of my editorials do) it bucks conventional thinking ... https://www.outsourcedpharma.com/doc/a-new-year-for-novo-nordisk-s-wegovy-supply-challenges-0001
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Think of yourself as investigating as much as reporting. Run away from the first liberal leanings of the media for most events.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Any working hour U.S. Eastern Time by email.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
Wall Street Journal.
