Award-winning health journalist; reporting for over three decades. Freelance since 1995. My main beats include seniors, boomers, social determinants and health policy; I also cover issues across the health care spectrum, from women’s health to chronic disease.
I'm the topic editor on Aging for the Association of Health Care Journalists -- reporting, culling resources, creating tip sheets and pointing out story possibilities to my peers.
My stories have appeared in major national media including Fortune.com, The Wirecutter, TIME Health, Next Avenue, Medscape, PBS NewsHour (digital), Consumer Reports, Medical Economics, and nationally syndicated in The Los Angeles Times, Forbes, MarketWatch, The Hartford Courant, and other print & digital outlets.
Professional honors: Award-winner, trade media, Excellence in Journalism, AHCJ; honorable mention, trade media, ASJA; former member of the Board, Journalism and Women Symposium (JAWS); Fellowships with the Center for Health Media & Policy (2012-2015), Gerontological Society of America/Journalists Network on Generations (2014-2015); Columbia University Age Boom Academy (2015).
I also co-direct the Journalists in Aging Fellowship, a partnership between the Journalists Network on Generations and the Gerontological Society of America and the Journalism and Womens Symposium (JAWS) Health Journalism fellowship.
I enjoy playing with our rescue dog Duke, a Shepherd mix, reading espionage/thrillers, and honing my photography skills, but nothing beats spending time with my two granddaughters
