Lucy is a UK-based journalist and content writer within the medical cannabis sector. Passionate about removing the stigma that surrounds cannabis-based treatments, and improving patient outcomes, Lucy is dedicated to creating high quality content that educates, informs, and raises awareness of medical cannabis in the UK.
In 2018, Lucy MacKinnon received a 2:1 from De Montfort University for her Joint Honours Degree in Journalism and Media and Communications. She started her career as a Junior Journalist with Orange Fox Media, creating content for their vaping publications, media partnerships and associated blogs.
In 2019, the company branched out into the vastly expanding CBD market launching Vapouround CBD which was quickly rebranded as The Cannavist. Under this relaunch, and the securement of the UK's first commercial cannabis publication deal with British high-street retailers WHSmiths and Easons in Ireland, Lucy became devoted to cannabis journalism.
Since then, she has published content about almost every aspect of the cannabis journey, from plant to patient, interviewed industry experts and worked on official media partnerships including the production of the Europe CBD Expo official show guide.
Lucy has been working with Releaf since March 2023 with the aim of removing the stigma associated with cannabis and improving awareness and understanding of the benefits of medical cannabis.
During her time at Releaf Lucy has spearheaded the 2023 market research report, Say No To Pain, which, as the UK’s largest study of attitudes towards medical cannabis, provided invaluable insight into the current medical cannabis climate in the UK.
She has also been a large contributor to Releaf's blog and education section, and as well as producing medical cannabis patient travel guides, Lucy has helped to create one of the largest medical cannabis glossaries available online.
