Java 8 Stream: difference between limit() and skip()
What you have here are two stream pipelines. The stream pipelines consist of a source, several intermediate operations, and a terminal operation. But the intermediate operations are lazy. This means that nothing happens unless an upstream operation requires an item. When it does, then the intermediate operation does all it needs to produce the required item, and then again waits until another item is requested, and so on. The terminal operations are usually "eager".
Instance initializer and *this* keyword
I will try it to explain on the compiler layer. Say you have a method like: The compilation will succed and the execution as well. If you change the Method into this: It will not even compile the same it is with your given example. The compiler copies the code of the intializer into the and also the initialization. As you said it works if you set the before the intializer. See the following Java bytecode: The field is declared and gets the value before it is used in the call.
Are *plus()* and *minus()* appropriate method's names?
The only reason I can think of is that dates are immutable objects, so by calling plusDays you're not adding days to the original object but creating a new one with new properties, but that's very vary subtle. This is exactly the reason. Imagine you had some kind of api for manipulating ranges of dates for scheduling purposes.
