NFL Season Preview: Who’s Left in January?
Courtesy of Joshua J. Cotten After an offseason that felt like it lasted years, the NFL is finally back and looking to deliver its best product. We’ve got shocking returns from retirement, MVP-caliber players coming off devastating injuries, and non-playoff teams from a year ago expecting to compete for a Super Bowl. And what better way to kick it off than a showdown of the two teams that played in that exact contest last February.
Offseason in Full Swing: Southeastern Connecticut’s Contribution to the NFL
Courtesy of Paolo Aldrighetti With Texas, Florida, California, and Georgia becoming factories of NFL talent, the Constitution State has taken a back seat when it comes to sending talent to the league. With that being said, the state’s Southeastern region has a long history of quality talent from the league’s early days into the modern era. These athletes were names to root for in a state that only had an NFL team to call its own for a single season in 1926.

EDITORIAL: Nowhere to run, and nowhere to hide while attack on diversity policies continues
Pexels/Andres Figueroa When the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sued The New York Times, claiming discrimination against a worker, we were ready to cheer the action. But we quickly reversed that move when we learned it was a white worker seeking the promotion and being denied. According to the complaint, the man, who was not named, was interviewed for the deputy real estate editor job in 2025, but was not selected for the panel interview.
George Gresham (1955-2026): A giant in New York’s labor community, committed to the cause

OP-ED: Why electric bills are forcing poor in NYC to subsidize rich
Credit: Pexels/ Ron Lach I support both the governor and mayor’s efforts to reduce costs for residents of New York City. However, I recently learned that every New Yorker who doesn’t own property is being forced to cover a share of real estate taxes for residents who do own property. This is an unintended consequence of policy intended to help ease property taxes, but it’s creating a wealth transfer, from poor to rich, and it’s happening on people’s electric bills.
Talking SCHOP! Talkin’ Shop with Talkin’ Tacos

Yes, one is much more significant than the other, as it marks the military victory against Napoleon’s army in the Battle of Puebla of 1862, turned celebration of Mexican pride and heritage.
OP-ED: Trump’s contradictions are predictable
Pexels/Chris F In an editorial several weeks ago, the AmNews commented on Donald Trump’s contradictory behavior, at that time, pointing out how he could pardon former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernaández, who was sentenced to 45 years in prison for facilitating the flow of cocaine to America, and at the same time, targeting and destroying boats for allegedly doing the same thing.

Wolfe, based on the poem by Joseph Moncure March — is enjoying an absolutely stunning show brilliantly directed by Lili-Anne Brown.

OP-ED: Threat to package delivery workers is threat to communities
Pexels/Kindel Media For most of my adult life, I’ve been fighting to hold onto a stable job. Not because I wasn’t willing, but because the jobs available didn’t fit my life — schedules that changed week to week. Hours that started before school dropoff and ended after pickup. No flexibility for the reality of raising kids on your own. Then I found a local job that has finally given me what I needed — stability for myself and to raise a family.
Immigration news you need to know now

Here are several key immigration developments you should know this week.
African Union Summit emphasizes need for water access, self-sufficiency
Despite water being a vital resource for all living things worldwide, equal access is scarce, especially in Africa, a disparity that the African Union (AU) is fervently working to address.

Trump and Mamdani at the White House: Was it really cordial?
President Donald Trump shakes hands with New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani in the Oval Office of the White House, Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, in Washington. Credit: (AP Photo/Evan Vucci) At the press conference following their meeting at the White House on Friday, Mayor-elect Zohrahn Mamdani and President Trump were quite chummy, and if the charge that one of them is a communist holds, then they were like comrades-in-arms.
The holy work of seeing each other, however we express our genders
Pexels/Jeff Sof For all we know, God may be trans. What if the One who breathed the stars into being and shaped our souls lives beyond the boundaries of gender altogether? What if God is not trapped by he or she but moves freely, lovingly, powerfully, both and neither, all at once? As a Christian leader, one who actually tries to follow Jesus, I keep coming back to the Bible. It is complicated and wild, full of poetry and paradox. But the heart of it is clear.
