Long Overdue Reviews, Vol. 2
A Season in Hell & The Drunken Boat by Arthur Rimbaud “A while back, if I remember right, my life was one long party where all hearts were open wide, where all wines kept flowing” – excerpt from the poem, A Season in Hell, from A Season in Hell by Arthur Rimbaud. Approaching what would be a semester in hell, I checked this book out from the Tran Library. Upon my first seeing and handling it, I wondered whether the aged and weathered copy would wither away in my backpack.
Reactions to Wormgate
Student body says Bon Voyage to trust in Bon Appetit Three weeks after school started and students had settled into their daily routines, as well as their meals at the UC, a video was posted to Yik Yak anonymously. It showed a worm on a plate of salad from the UC; the worm was coiled around itself so tight that it looked like an apple stem.
Lost in Interpretation?
Pacific students respond to the current Cawein art installation Upon first seeing the pieces formed by Portland-based multimedia artist Alyson Provax posted up in the Cawein Gallery, I was confronted with a vague feeling of nothingness; almost comparable to the depleted noise of the air conditioning in Cawein. A placard written by Provax greeted me before the exhibit, opening with: “Last year I thought I read Mary Ruefle as saying that we spend our lives repeating a single sentence.
Just Add Actors!
Eighth Annual Pacific University Instant Theatre Festival On Saturday, September 14, at six thirty, the eighth annual Instant Theatre Festival unveiled its four productions. For the previous 24 hours, students had constructed a narrative from scratch.
A Midspring’s Night Intertextuality

Laughter as the Avenue for Contemplation
A Preview for One Woman, Too Much “One Woman, Too Much” is a play written by Professor Ellen Margolis, Pacific’s Theatre & Dance Department Chair. The play has a lot going on, but the central message warns against taking on too much responsibility.
Is SEO Your Best Bet During a Recession?
By Luke Whitaker, SEO Consultant at Organic According to a former Bank of England rate-setter on Bloomberg, we’re probably already in recession and the depressing UK headlines keep coming as Britain is set to have the slowest growth among major industrialised nations next year, as double-digit inflation and rising interest rates squeeze household spending, also reported here on Bloomberg. We’ve also been warned that the global economy may also soon be on the cusp of recession.
Frantic search for missing swimmer ends well
LONG BEACH — A frantic search for a missing swimmer off Long Beach on the Fourth of July ended in relief, with a 14-year-old girl safely reunited with her family. At 9 p.m. Monday, July 4, a full-scale search was in progress for a missing child presumed to be in the surf just north of the Bolstad beach approach in Long Beach.
Athlete Spotlight: Tyler Krueck, Overcoming the Adversity of Injury
Tyler Krueck, a first-year student, and an outfielder on the Pacific University Boxer Baseball team, was injured early in the season. Krueck broke his fourth metacarpal on his right hand during the JV game against George Fox University on March 10th. He has been injured for four months and is just starting rehab as of April 7th. Krueck had high hopes for his season at the beginning of the year, yet with his injury against George Fox, those hopes faced a difficult obstacle.
Pacific Students Unwind at ACE Board Open Mic Night
The University Center Open Mic is one of the few chances for the students of Pacific to forget about the burdens of their constant classes and bustling social life. Constant work on part of the ACE Board during the entire week led up to their first Open Mic Night of the semester. The Open Mic was defined by its drastic diversity of sound. American Idol Season 14 finalist Rayvon Owens was the headlining act of the night.
Come In by Weatherday - A Modern Relative Classic
Music is eternal. Every culture has their own forms and styles of music. Music is something that lives on and influences people and the internet has only made that influence last longer. Albums like Twin Fantasy by Car Seat Headrest, In the Aeroplane and Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel, The Glow pt. 2 by The Microphones, and more have stayed alive on the internet, where other albums have faded away to obscurity for lack of staying power, or just a severe lack of luck.
