Cytoplasmic anillin and Ect2 promote RhoA/myosin II-dependent confined migration and invasion - Nature Materials
Abstract Cell migration in mechanically confined environments is a crucial step of metastatic cancer progression. Nonetheless, the molecular components and processes mediating such behaviour are still not fully understood. Here we demonstrate that a pool of the scaffolding protein anillin and its cofactor Ect2, which are both predominantly nuclear proteins and critical mediators of cytokinesis, is present in the cytoplasm of multiple interphase cell types that promote confined cell migration.
Viscoelastic extracellular matrix enhances epigenetic remodeling and cellular plasticity - Nature Communications
Abstract Extracellular matrices of living tissues exhibit viscoelastic properties, yet how these properties regulate chromatin and the epigenome remains unclear. Here, we show that viscoelastic substrates induce changes in nuclear architecture and epigenome, with more pronounced effects on softer surfaces.
Age-dependent loss of HAPLN1 erodes vascular integrity via indirect upregulation of endothelial ICAM1 in melanoma - Nature Aging
Abstract Melanoma, the most lethal form of skin cancer, often has worse outcomes in older patients. We previously demonstrated that an age-related decrease in the secreted extracellular matrix (ECM) protein HAPLN1 has a role in slowing melanoma progression. Here we show that HAPLN1 in the dermal ECM is sufficient to maintain the integrity of melanoma-associated blood vessels, as indicated by increased collagen and VE-cadherin expression.
Redox-tunable isoindigos for electrochemically mediated carbon capture - Nature Communications
Abstract Efficient CO2 separation technologies are essential for mitigating climate change. Compared to traditional thermochemical methods, electrochemically mediated carbon capture using redox-tunable sorbents emerges as a promising alternative due to its versatility and energy efficiency.
Antibacterial Effect of Shrimp By-Products Hydrolysate on Specific Spoilage Organisms of Squid
Abstract : In order to further develop and utilize shrimp processing by-products, in this study, a novel antibacterial hydrolysate of shrimp by-products by pepsin hydrolysis (SPH) was prepared. The antibacterial effect of SPH on specific spoilage organisms of squid after end storage at room temperature (SE–SSOs) was investigated. SPH showed an antibacterial effect on the growth of SE–SSOs, with (23.4 ± 0.2) mm of inhibition zone diameter.
Probing Membrane Protein Association Using Concentration‐Dependent Number and Brightness
Research Article PDF ShareShare Abstract We introduce concentration‐dependent number and brightness (cdN&B), a fluorescence fluctuation technique that can be implemented on a standard confocal microscope and can report on the thermodynamics of membrane protein association in the native plasma membrane. It uses transient transfection to enable measurements of oligomer size as a function of receptor concentration over a broad range, yielding the association constant.
Design and fabrication of an off-axis four-mirror system for head-up displays
Abstract Head-up displays (HUDs), as one kind of the augmented reality (AR) applications, enable users to enhance the situational awareness. In this paper, we propose a design of a HUD employing the freeform off-axis four-mirror construction, in which the eyebox and eye relief as large as ${120}\;{\rm mm} \times {80}\;{\rm mm}$ and 400 mm, respectively, are derived. In the part of system design, the biocular parallax is evaluated and corrected.
Design and evaluation of a biocular system
Abstract In this study, a biocular system is established and a biocular analysis method is proposed by analyzing the biocular parallax principle to determine the relationship between convergence, dipvergence, azimuth, and elevation. Based on the biocular analysis method, a looped optimization method for reducing biocular parallax is presented. After optimizing the biocular system, convergence of the system is between −6mrad–6mrad, and dipvergence is between −1.5mrad–1.5mrad.
Biomaterials as vectors for the delivery of CRISPR-Cas9
Biomaterials as vectors for the delivery of CRISPR–Cas9 Joon Eoha and Luo Gu*a The emergence of the CRISPR–Cas9 gene editing system has brought much hope and excitement to the field of gene therapy and the larger scientific community. However, in order for CRISPR-based therapies to be translated to the clinical setting, there is an urgent need to develop optimized vectors for their delivery.
