Comparison of the Relationships Between Body Size and Cardiorespiratory Fitness With High Frequency Head-Motion Contamination in fMRI
1 Introduction Advanced age is associated with changes in body size, body composition, and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) that together impact age-related changes in brain function (Rapp et al. 2018; Tari et al. 2025; Voss and Jain 2022). Exercise interventions can help to mitigate the adverse effects of advanced age by improving body composition, CRF, brain blood flow, and cognitive function (Jayedi et al. 2024; Stillman et al. 2017; Voss et al. 2019).
Vascular function in women: when studying perimenopause is peri important
Handling Editor: Jill Barnes The menopausal transition is a time of accelerated cardiovascular ageing and increased susceptibility to chronic diseases including cardiovascular disease (CVD). Growing data support a cardiovascular contribution to brain ageing, but characterization of this in women remains unclear. In an article in this issue of Experimental Physiology, Ruediger et al.
Sex and age differences in the association between sympathetic outflow and central elastic artery wall thickness in humans
Abstract Aging is characterized by increased wall thickness of the central elastic arteries (i.e., aorta and carotid arteries), although the mechanisms involved are unclear. Evidence suggests that age-related increases in muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA) may be a contributing factor. However, studies in humans have been lacking.
Education moderates the effects of large central artery aging on cognitive performance in middle‐aged and older adults
Abstract Central artery aging, including elevated aortic stiffness, central blood pressure (BP), and pulse pressure (PP), is a novel risk factor for the development of age‐associated cognitive dysfunction. Individuals with higher educational attainment may develop greater brain pathology prior to the onset of cognitive decline. However, whether education moderates relations between central artery aging and cognitive performance is unknown.
