Phosphorus and nitrogen fertilization effects on limpograss forage characteristics, root-stem base mass, and tissue phosphorus concentration
Abstract Limpograss (Hemarthria altissima [Poir.] Stapf & C.E. Hubb.) is a widely cultivated warm-season perennial grass in tropical and subtropical regions. Phosphorus (P) is essential for limpograss productivity; however, there have been inconsistent herbage accumulation (HA) responses to P fertilization on Spodosols. The objectives of this study were to evaluate P and N fertilization effects on limpograss forage characteristics and determine the critical tissue P concentration for limpograss.

The importance of considering temporal intraspecific trait variation in Campos grasslands
Aims Changes in species composition and intraspecific trait variation are recognized as potential drivers of population and community temporal dynamics but their independent and overlapping effects have not been distinguished conclusively. Our goal was to quantify the relevance of temporal vs spatial changes in species composition and intraspecific trait variations when assessing community responses to seasonality, grazing pressure and above-ground biomass gradients.

Finding a solution to declining bahiagrass pastures
Solving some present-day problems requires revisiting decades-old knowledge. This is the case for pasture decline observed in recent years in Florida beef cow-calf operations. Several years ago, numerous reports surfaced of bahiagrass pasture decline. Bahiagrass is a hardy perennial that is used on approximately 2.5 million acres in Florida. It is very popular in low-input systems because it tolerates low soil fertility, poorly or excessively drained soils, and less than optimal grazing management.

Nitrogen recovery via cotton At the end of the litter incubation period, approximately 191 kg N ha−1 was recovered from the soil by via whole cotton plant biomass. This value was within the previously reported by various authors. For example, N removal rates from fields under drip-fertigated and furrow-irrigated treatments were reported based on cotton seed yield and stem weight, ranging from 94 to 188 kg N ha−1 (Janat, 2008).
