I am the author of four books of essays and journalism: Landscape of the Heart (Washington State University Press); A View from the Inland Northwest (Globe Pequot); The 1000-Year Flood (Globe Pequot); and Going Driftless (Globe Pequot).
I am a two-time recipient of a fellowship in prose writing from the Illinois Arts Council and I have published articles, book reviews, essays, and poems in numerous publications, including Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Salon, Toronto Globe & Mail, American Way, Manoa, New York Daily News, Dallas Morning News, Newsweek, The Sun (20 published essays), Chicago Tribune, Funny Times, Minneapolis Star, Witness, and High Country News.
My work has been featured in fourteen anthologies alongside such noted writers as Barry Lopez, Peter Matthiessen, Edward Abbey, Barbara Kingsolver, Anna Quindlen, Dave Barry, and Louise Erdrich. My books include blurbs by Terry Tempest Williams, William Kittredge, and Bill McKibben.
