3.2 The Response of Transported Air to ENSO To quantify the influence of ENSO on the transport of tagged air, we consider the slope of the linear regression between the tagged air fraction and the Niño3.4 index (N34). During the EN phase, the eastward mass transport to Central and South America, the Atlantic Ocean, and Africa increases (Figure 1b).
