I. INTRODUCTION In nuclear fusion devices, the interaction of the edge plasma with plasma facing components (PFCs) leads to various effects. Such effects include surface erosion by sputtering, layer growth from the redeposition of sputtered PFC material, and trapping of deuterium (D) and tritium (T) fuel species within the PFC material or the deposited layers (commonly referred to as codeposits).
