Quantifying impacts of vertical land motion and sea level rise on flooding in Lagos Nigeria
Abstract Coastal cities face increased flood risk from combined sea-level rise (SLR) and vertical land motion (VLM). Subsidence approximately doubles the rate of sea-level rise experienced along densely populated coasts, yet few exposure assessments resolve the local VLM variability that drives flooding. Here, we integrate high resolution VLM into SLR projections for Lagos, Nigeria.

Last week, we talked about YAC+ and the dominance of the San Francisco 49ers. We also covered passing plus/minus, where Kyler Murray reigned supreme. But the 49ers and Cardinals didn't win the Super Bowl last year; that was the domain of the Los Angeles Rams.

How Mayfield Fits in McAdoo's Offense
NFL Offseason - Matt Rhule's conquest to bring in every discarded first-round quarterback has led him to Baker Mayfield. A fallen star of a former first overall pick, Mayfield was finally let out of Cleveland and sent over to Carolina for a conditional fifth-round pick. On the surface, Mayfield is the most talented and arguably most accomplished passer that Rhule has been able to scrounge up, but a deeper dive into his fit with the offense suggests this is not a perfect marriage.
NFC South Camp Preview: Panthers Play Out The String
NFL Offseason - Baker Mayfield tries to save the Carolina Panthers from themselves. Marcus Mariota must stay healthy enough to hold off Desmond Ridder. How likely was a given play to earn big yards after the catch? And which players routinely outperformed what the averages would predict?

Film Shows How Matt Ryan Can Help Colts
NFL Offseason - Frank Reich has never been able to settle on a quarterback in Indianapolis. That is no fault of his own since the good ones keep retiring, but it has created a steady stream of tweaks and accommodations to the offense in order to fit each new quarterback. Some of each offense's particular identities were worth leaning into, such as the Andrew Luck and Philip Rivers schemes. Others were not, like the Jacoby Brissett and Carson Wentz attacks.
Birmingham Stallions Win the USFL Championship
USFL - And they would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for Scooby and those meddling Stallions. The USFL Championship Game had a little bit of everything—big plays, backup quarterbacks, back-breaking turnovers, unique rules, truly head-scratching decisions and a finish that wasn't decided until the final minute in regulation. But in the end, it was the Birmingham Stallions—the team with the longest odds before the season began—who end up holding up the inaugural championship trophy.

USFL Championship Preview: Stallions and Stars Seek Glory

The Birmingham Stallions will attempt to go wire-to-wire as the best team in the USFL, with only the explosive offense of the Philadelphia Stars between them and championship glory. The two sides meet this Sunday in Canton, Ohio, for the inaugural USFL Championship. The Stallions being here is a surprise.

Our Frank Gore discussion begins where few Pro Football Hall of Fame discussions should ever begin: on an all-time leaderboard. To save you from clicking over to Pro Football Reference, here is the all-time top 10 list. Note the year of retirement of each running back in the third column.

NFL Offseason - Guest column by Jeremy Snyder DISCLAIMER: SOME OF THE QUOTES USED IN THE FOLLOWING ARTICLE MAY HAVE APPEARED IN OTHER PUBLICATIONS "Obviously, they did an in-depth article on my character by rewriting other stories that have been published about me—without ever talking to me—which doesn't seem right. I don't particularly like being associated with that magazine, but I know it's a Catch-22 situation.
1981 DVOA: 49ers Finally Win It All, but Eagles Rule DVOA
NFL Offseason - Joe Montana and the San Francisco 49ers went 13-3 and won their first Super Bowl title in 1981. Our DVOA ratings are unimpressed. The 49ers only finished the 1981 season 12th in overall DVOA, one of the worst ranks ever for a Super Bowl champion. Instead, the regular-season DVOA title belongs to the defending NFC champions, the Philadelphia Eagles.

USFL Playoff Recap: Stallions Are Seeing Stars
USFL - The USFL shifted its focus to Canton and the Pro Football Hall of Fame for it's inaugural playoffs. USFL Playoffs: Can the Stallions and Generals Avoid Upsets?
USFL - The USFL leaves Birmingham and heads to Canton, Ohio, for its first-ever playoff weekend. And if you go solely by regular-season results, you would think there's little drama in this opening round. Both matchups this week feature rematches of regular-season sweeps. The Birmingham Stallions went 2-0 against the New Orleans Breakers to win the South, while the New Jersey Generals beat the Philadelphia Stars twice on their way to winning the North.

1982 in Quotes: Year of the Strike

Minnesota Vikings: Champions of Heartbreak
NFL Offseason - We are gathered here today to name a champion. Five franchises who went through a decade-plus of success with nothing to show for it gather for the right to be declared the greatest heartbreak dynasty of them all, the team that deserved the most titles and caused their fans the most pain by not coming through. In the Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings, we have two franchises which have never won the Super Bowl, yet came tantalizingly close four times.

Dynasties of Heartbreak 6-10: Raiders of the Lost Titles
Oakland Raiders head coach John Madden Photo: USA Today Sports Images NFL Offseason - We have reached the penultimate stage of the Dynasties of Heartbreak countdown. There's just too much pain here for 10 teams to share one article, so we're counting down numbers 10 through six today and saving the final five for tomorrow. This is far as teams can realistically go if they started or ended their run with a relevant championship.
