Best Mac accessories: 3 things I can't compute without
Apple makes the best desktop PCs and laptops. But I cannot say the same for its accessories. While I have been using Macs for more than a decade, I rely on these five Mac accessories made by third parties to enhance my experience. The list ranges from a wireless keyboard to an ergonomic mouse to headphones that will amaze you with their noise cancellation. Read about my five favorite Mac accessories below. ViewSonic brings out stylish, affordable 5K rival to Apple Studio Display
Add ViewSonic to the list of companies making a 27-inch, 5K monitor to compete head-to-head with the Apple Studio Display. As with so many of the rivals, the ColorPro VP2788-5K is considerably more affordable than Apple’s offering. And it doesn’t look half bad. ViewSonic ColorPro VP2788-5K takes on Apple Studio Display The Apple Studio Display targets creative professionals, with a 5K resolution, high color accuracy, and a sleek design.

Surprise! M4 Mac mini multiport hub/stand launches early
The wait for the Satechi Mac mini M4 Stand & Hub with SSD Enclosure isn’t as long as expected. The accessory — which adds front-facing ports and more storage — can be ordered now, though quantities are limited. It seems a nice addition for Apple’s tiny new desktop. It even makes pressing the computer’s hidden power button easier. Take the M4 Mac mini to the max with new Satechi stand and hub Sure, the Mac mini M4 comes with an array of ports, but more are always better.
This one cable charges Apple Watch plus your other gear
When you need to juice up your iPhone and Apple Watch, a single cable isn’t going to do you much good… unless it’s the latest innovation from Nomad. The new Universal Cable for Apple Watch charges the wearable while also sending current to another USB-C device, like a MacBook or iPad. It’s not quite like anything else on the market.
Get terabytes of storage on the cheap with speedy new SSD from PNY
The PNY PRO Elite V3 is a newly launched mobile SSD that holds terabytes and can transfer data at up to 1000MB/s. But perhaps its standout feature is price: the 2TB variant comes in at $145. And PNY also just introduced two other speedy USB-C drives that top out at 256GB but also cost under $25. PNY PRO Elite V3: Fast and (relatively) cheap storage The best thing to happen to flash drives is USB 3.2 Gen 2.
Another Studio Display alternative for Mac graphic designers [Review]
As you’ll read in our hands-on review of the BenQ DesignVue PD2730S, this Apple Studio Display alternative offers similar specs at a lower price. The new BenQ display delivers the same 27-inch screen, 5K Retina resolution, frame rate, color gamut and Thunderbolt connectivity as Apple’s pricey monitor. This formula might ring a bell — BenQ’s new high-end display is the second Studio Display alternative to hit the market.
espresso 15 Pro: Portable 4K 15-inch touchscreen monitor
The espresso 15 Pro checks all the boxes for Apple users looking for a high-end portable monitor. 4K? Check. Touchscreen? Check. USB-C? Check. The 15-inch screen — a smaller version of the espresso 17 Pro — is on display at CES 2025. It even scored espresso Displays a CES Innovation Award. Studies show that adding an external monitor to a MacBook or iPad improves productivity. espresso Displays offers a line of these, and is growing its selection with a new high-end model.
Satechi multiport hub & stand takes M4 Mac mini to the max
The Satechi Mac mini M4 Stand & Hub with SSD Enclosure expands the capabilities of Apple’s tiny new desktop with additional front-facing ports and more storage. It even makes pressing the computer’s hidden power button easier. Satechi gave a sneak peek of the product in November, but on Monday revealed the full specifications, including a price and release date.
Get Studio Display specs without paying Apple prices [Review] ★★★★☆
Asus’ new ProArt 5K desktop monitor costs just half of what you’ll pay for Apple’s Studio Display but offers many of the same features. The Asus ProArt 5K PA27JCV boasts the same 27-inch screen, Retina resolution, standard framerate and P3 wide color gamut as Apple’s midrange monitor. It also comes with a built-in USB hub and KVM, which proves great if you still use a few USB-A accessories or flash drives. Admittedly, Asus’ 5K desktop monitor misses some of the Studio Display’s premium features.
Max out your M4 Mac mini with this multiport hub/stand
The just-announced Satechi Mac mini M4 Stand & Hub with SSD Enclosure adds an array of front-facing ports to Apple’s slimmed-down desktop. There’s also room inside for an NVMe SSD. The multi-purpose accessory is designed to match the size and appearance of the Mac. Make your Mac mini more like a mini workstation The Mac mini M4 has a beautiful, minimalist design, which is great until you want to plug in a thumb drive or maybe a camera. Then more ports you can easily reach would be welcome.
Great-looking portable display does double duty as USB-C hub [Review] ★★★★½
The Plugable 15.6” USB-C Portable Display connects to MacBook or iPad to add more screen space, but that’s only the start: it’s also a hub with a pair of high-speed USB-C ports available for external drives, a keyboard, etc. As a person who regularly works outside of the office with an iPad Pro, I’m more than qualified to test this accessory for road warriors who are perpetually short of USB-C ports. Here’s why I love it. This post contains affiliate links.
Opal Tadpole could be just the webcam your older MacBook needs [Review] ★★★★☆
Opal Tadpole acts as a replacement for the webcam in your laptop or tablet. Clip the well-built gadget to an older MacBook and you’ll look better on video calls. I tested one with multiple computers to see how Tadpole stands up in real world use — and whether it might make a good gift this holiday season. This post contains affiliate links. Budget flash drive sports USB-C and USB-A connectors [Review] ★★★★☆ Original
UGR Tech Dual USB-C + USB-A 3.2 High Speed Flash Drive plugs into your new Mac or iPad but it can also be used with devices that still have an old full-size USB port. It’s a low-cost flash drive so I was very suspicious. But the aluminum exterior is quite rugged, the design is clever and the accessory passed a fraud test. UGR Tech Dual USB-C + USB-A 3.2 High Speed Flash Drive review I’ll be happy when the transition from USB-A to USB-C is finally over.

The affordable adapter with a built-in 8-foot cable reached store shelves Tuesday. Hyper’s USB-C HDMI adapter/cable is plug-and-play No one like hassling with adapters, but they’re a lifesaver when your computer doesn’t have the port needed to connect to an accessory you want to use. And there are plenty of Apple computers without HDMI ports.
Easily add two HDMI monitors to any Mac with this simple adapter
Those looking for loads of screen space can connect a pair of HDMI monitors to their MacBook with the newly released Plugable USBC-6950M adapter. And it can do this with Macs that ordinarily support only one external display. This post contains affiliate links. Cult of Mac may earn a commission when you use our links to buy items. MacBooks are designed to be slim and lightweight, but they accomplished this by skimping on ports. Some models have a single HDMI port, but none have more than that.

Charge Apple devices from almost any power source with this 5-in-1 multiport cable [Review] ★★★★☆
It’s happened to all of us. Yout iPhone battery is on empty and there are plenty of chargers around but not the cable you need. The same thing can happen with a iPad and even a Mac. The inCharge X from Rolling Square is just what you need. It’s tiny enough for you to take it everywhere, but adaptable enough to enable almost any type of Apple device to get power from almost any charger. Rolling Square also makes inCharge X Max, which is just as flexible but with a 5-foot cable built in. I tested both.
