What was your first job as a journalist?
I was an intern at TAPinto Scotch Plains-Fanwood while I was a student at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School in Scotch Plains, New Jersey.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
I have, I was gifted one as a high school graduation present!
How is social media changing news?
It provides additional daily perspectives on the news cycle, and new ways to reach people.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Rory Gilmore from "Gilmore Girls", William Miller from "Almost Famous," Carrie Bradshaw from "Sex and the City."
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To me, it means working towards telling stories about a diverse community in an equitable manner.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
SwiftiesAgainstTicketmaster.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Via email.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
WordPress and the Adobe Suite have always been important tools.
What's your favorite social network?
TikTok.
Who do you wish followed you?
Taylor Swift.
Why did you become a journalist?
I became a journalist to produce diverse, ethical, and authentic work, whether through a print or multimedia lens.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I worked for my high school yearbook, the Culmen, as Writing Editor in Chief.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
There are many different types of stories I have had the privilege of working on. My first piece for the Boston Globe will always be special!
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
That their personal perspective matters more than they realize. Being unbiased is important, but sometimes additional insight can be helpful.
When's the best time to pitch you?
In the early afternoon.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
The opportunities to interview Declan McKenna, Madison Cunningham, Coral Moons, and Chrissy Chlapecka!
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
I am a reporter, so I don't handle pitches from freelance writers!
What's your favorite drink?
I love coffee, specifically anything vanilla or caramel flavored with almond milk!
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Either at a coffee shop, a thrift store, a concert, or outdoors.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I love reading Billboard, Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, The L.A. Times, Billboard, Vogue, NYLON, New York Magazine, The Hollywood Reporter..
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
I currently predominantly report on entertainment, and my beat frequently intercepts with politics and news, more than some would think.
