Andy Burnham’s grooming gang hypocrisy Will he continue to ignore victims?
“In Burnham’s administration, I see too much of the same arrogant culture that characterized previous governments.” (Toby Shepheard/Pool/ AFP/Getty) Andy BurnhamCrimegrooming gangsJusticePoliticsUK Prefer us on Google “Here we go again!” That’s what I find myself thinking as I watch the latest “confusion” surrounding the early release of serious sexual offenders and murderers. Another headline. Another announcement. Another promise.
I'm a former police detective - I saw how politics let grooming gangs abuse children
This week, the Independent Inquiry into Grooming Gangs announced the first areas selected for local investigations: Oldham, Bradford, Keighley and London. I pay tribute to the survivors who have lost years of their lives fighting for years to make this happen.
Why fully funding New Mexico elections is essential for secure, accessible voting
LOCAL COLUMN New Mexico’s election system is a model of efficiency, integrity and accessibility. Our commitment to fair and transparent elections earned us the No. 1 rank in election administration nationwide in 2024, and we continue to hold that title today. Maintaining this gold standard, however, requires sustained investment. Unfortunately, my office continues to face chronic underfunding.

‘I Risked Everything to Blow the Whistle on Britain’s Grooming Gangs’
‘I Risked Everything to Blow the Whistle on Britain’s Grooming Gangs’ Maggie Oliver spent years pursuing a network of pedophiles who drugged and raped girls as young as 12. But after her investigation was halted, she quit the police force—and told the world the truth. Last month, Elon Musk wrote a series of posts on X about a British scandal stretching back two decades.

OPINION: Recent SOS mailer made it clear only U.S. citizens may register to vote
There are less than two weeks until the general election and New Mexico’s election officials are hard at work helping voters with early voting and same-day voter registration, receiving ballots by mail, and completing final preparations for Election Day. Instead of focusing on supporting their county clerks, encouraging participation, and providing accurate information to voters, however, some New Mexico elected officials have instead begun spreading misinformation about our elections.

Women treated like meat and subjected to unjustified strip searches in police custody, damning report finds
The review into Greater Manchester Police (GMP), carried out by the former victims' commissioner for England and Wales, Dame Vera Baird KC, follows reports that three women had accused the police force of unjustified strip searches after being arrested. Dame Vera interviewed more than 15 people who had been arrested and detained by Greater Manchester Police as she called for strip searching to be severely limited, properly regulated and fully recorded.
OPINION: Make your voice heard by voting early
Hovland is a commissioner on the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. Toulouse Oliver, a Democrat, is New Mexico's secretary of state. Fitzpatrick, a Democrat is clerk and recorder for Boulder County, Colo. Hatch, a Republican, is clerk and auditor for Weber County, Utah. In a handful of days, Americans will decide who will be elected to lead our nation, states and communities by casting their ballots in the midterm election.
New Mexico Is Leading on Voting Rights
Federal voting rights legislation has stalled and with little chance of it ever passing during this current Congress, the nation is now looking to the states to protect and expand our most fundamental rights. In New Mexico, we have long been a national model for protecting voter access and deploying innovative election security solutions. Our use of all-paper ballots for every election, air-gapped counting systems and mandatory post-election audits are a national standard.
