Air pollution is an administrative failure. Can Pakistan see through the haze?
October 13, 2025 ISLAMABAD – Smog has become a symptom of deeper systemic issues: weak regulation, unchecked emissions, and short-term politics. Tackling it requires not another plan, but a functioning system that enforces the ones already written. The fear of smog has already started lingering upon us. We are once again bracing ourselves to choke in our own neglect. Are we doomed to suffer every year, through climate change, mismanagement, broken promises, or is it just bad luck?
Comparison of Surgical Versus Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement for Patients With Aortic Stenosis at Low-Intermediate Risk
BACKGROUND: To compare safety and efficacy of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) with surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in patients at low-intermediate risk, given the paucity of robust data. METHODS: We performed an aggregate data meta-analysis of 7 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and 6,778 patients comparing TAVR with SAVR for aortic stenosis (AS) in low-intermediate risk patients (Society of Thoracic Surgeons risk-score ≤8%) using the random-effects model.

A 44-year-old man presented to the emergency department with progressive pulmonary symptoms. He was hypoxic with bilateral pulmonary opacities on chest radiograph. CT of the chest showed a geographical pattern of ground-glass attenuation.

Five years ago I was invited to become the chief political commentator of the Telegraph. It was a job I was very proud to accept. The Telegraph has long been the most important conservative-leaning newspaper in Britain, admired as much for its integrity as for its superb news coverage.
Women in Bangladesh: silenced victims of state terror
Four female MPs from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) were arrested by police as they tried to enter their party office. Mohammed Asad/Demotix. All rights reserved. At 3pm in the afternoon on Friday 6 February, three men from Chattra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League political party, arrived at a house in Dhaka’s Jatrabari district. The men demanded the whereabouts of the household’s father, a local leader of the opposition party, Jamaat-e-Islami.
