This piece, investigating local backlash to the governments proposals for large scale accommodation sites, was the final project of my Masters degree at City University.
Over the course of 3 months, I investigated Bexhill community's response to plans for a site to open on the outskirts of their town.

The “stop the boats” refrain has become the soundtrack to the of the current government’s migration policy.
But in January 2024, over 1,300 people crossed in the country in small boats, and was only 3 people short of January 2022’s record high.
In an attempt to deter migrants, the government announced plans for mass accommodation sites.
Whilst Ministers insist that the policy is part of a solution to fix the UK’s broken asylum system, and that sites are a cheap alternative to housing migrants in hotels, a recent report published by the National Audit Office shows that these sites will cost more.
The sites have had a profound effect on the local communities they’ve been proposed in, raising concern among residents, charities and the local authorities.
