With an artist's name as revealing as A Story Told About True Events, it is not hard to gauge the profoundness behind the man and the music.
The talented A.S.T.A.T.E, born Malcolm Worsham is ready to put Arkansas back on the map with his bona fide soulful sound, a place that’s heralded such notable acts as Al Green and Lenny Williams.
“I’m just focused on finding a way to the table. On the outside looking in, it seems like the game is set up on the value of the favor. Hip-Hop means more to me than that. What if I didn’t get a favor? I know every great has put their time in before it was their time and I’m no different. I just want to earn it, pay my dues, and when it’s that time they will know. If I get a chance to sit at the table, you don’t have to order for me. I'm straight. Just show me where the options are at. Show me what’s on the menu. I want to enter the game and let you know, Arkansas wants next.”
Inspired in bringing that organic feel back to his hometown, the performer began his quest in his late teens and was awarded a runner up position on BET’s 106-N Park Wild Out Wednesday in Jan 2013, losing out to XXL Freshman Dizzy Wright.
With a B.A. in Mass Communications as well as music journalism pieces placed in several respectable outlets- A.S.T.A.T.E’s varied experience may give him an advantage in terms of how he navigates himself through such a competitive industry.
For now however, the artist who cites hip hop greats such as 2Pac and Master P as influences, has eyes fixed solely on music and the culture. He is hard at work on his debut project “Look At What We Started.”
