This NGO Has Installed ‘Hand Wash’ Centers In 187 Community Toilets Across Mumbai
In March 2019, the world was reeling under the Covid-19 pandemic. Due to a surge in Covid-19 cases across the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a nationwide 40-day lockdown. During these testing times, personal hygiene and sanitation became the only ways to keep ourselves safe. However, these two practices remained a luxury only for the privileged class. In Mumbai, one of the hardest-hit cities, the civic body shut down many community toilets.
Is India ‘Really Tolerant’?
Back when India was not independent, it was surely not a tolerant country. People, especially women, uneducated, the lower class were not considered worth considering. But now, has the scenario changed? Not really. We cannot proudly say that it has become tolerant. Mr Rajnath Singh once quoted, “India is the most tolerant country in the world”.
Hathras: Enough With The Hashtags, Its Time To Get Real
Trigger Warning: Sexual Assault, Rape, Caste-Based Violence. In another inhumane incident of a heinous gang-rape, a 19-year old woman from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh succumbed to her grievous injuries on September 29 at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital after fighting for her life for two weeks. The 19-year old girl was allegedly assaulted and raped by four upper-caste men from her own village in Hathras on September 14.
Hathras: “My Heart Weeps, My Body Shivers”
TW: Rape As I write this I sincerely think- is it going to make any difference to the society and the cheap minds of the people? My heart weeps, my body shivers, it pains differently each time I hear about such incidents. Believe me, our status update makes no difference. Nothing has changed from Nirbhaya to the girl in Hathras.
#Hathras: 7 Months Since Justice Was Served To Nirbhaya, Has Anything Changed?
TW: Rape Eight years ago, a 23-year-old medical intern was brutally raped and killed in a moving bus on December 16, 2012. This horrifying assault came to be known as the ‘2012 Delhi gang rape and murder’ or the ‘Nirbhaya case.’ In March 2020, all accused were sentenced to death.
I Am A Boy, And I Talk About Periods As Casually As I Talk About Netflix
I belong to an educated, lower-middle-class, North-Indian family. I’m a single child, a boy; and we don’t talk about periods at home. I couldn’t understand the advertisements of sanitary pads till my 8th or 9th grade, an age when most of the girls had already started menstruating. Why is the girl sad, why is she running now, is it a kind of diaper, what does it soak, I had no clue.
As Someone Who Experiences Severe Cramps, Period Leave Is A Welcome Step
Recently, food delivery giant Zomato recently announced a 10-day paid period leave annually for its menstruating employees. Zomato’s ‘period leave’ policy has triggered a debate among the Indian society where menstruation is still considered a taboo. The move is to combat the stigma around the issue. “There shouldn’t be any shame or stigma attached to applying for a period leave,” Zomato chief executive Deepinder Goyal said in a note to staff.
Imagining A Better Future: Can We Have Gender Equality Post Pandemic?
Imagine if a woman has the courage to take charge of her body, reveal the fire in her eyes, and take the world by her force. Imagine if we were living in a world where a man was afraid of a woman taking his job. If we were living in a world where a woman walks into meetings confidently, applies for jobs she isn’t fully qualified for, and is not talked over. Where she needs no permission to do paid work and splits household work with the men in the house equally.
Opinion: “Our Political Thinking Today Is Like A Code Fitted In An Electronic Machine.”
Totalitarian societies come into being not only when people become less sceptical about their governments, but also when their political behaviour becomes more predictable. The predictable behaviour of voters gives a definite and precise cue to political leaders to understand the kind of words, metaphors, speeches, signs, languages and philosophy they can use in order to get favourable results for their totalitarian ambition.
“Axone” Is Fresh In Representation, But Lacks Nuance. Here’s Why!
To say movies representing the Northeast of India in Bollywood are less would be an understatement; they are almost non-existent. This is where Axone come off as a nouveau approach in modern Indian cinema. The movie, directed by Nicholas Kharkongor, depicts the everyday ordeal of Northeast people in Indian metros. The movie, its storyline, its approach, is something which has not been done before in the Indian movie scene.
It’s High Time We Check People Like Shubham Mishra Who Hurl Abuses Online
For many years, Indian women have been victims of sexual violence. They have been encouraged to be vigilant of their honour. However, as time passed, many women broke the shackles of these customs and restrictions of their physical environment. They have tried to walk shoulder to shoulder with men demanding equal rights. Today, with the expansion of social media, both men and women have found their voices and a place to express themselves.
