Long-term trends of selected pesticides in the Little Arkansas River, south-central Kansas, 1995-2023
The eastern part of the High Plains Aquifer, herein called the Equus beds aquifer, is currently a primary source of water (2026) for the city of Wichita, Kansas. The Equus Beds Aquifer Storage and Recovery Project was developed in the early 1990s to meet future water demands by using the Little Arkansas River as an artificial aquifer recharge water source during above-base-flow conditions in the river.
Methods for computing water-quality concentrations and loads at sites operated by the U.S. Geological Survey Kansas Water Science Center
First posted August 1, 2024 The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Kansas Water Science Center (KSWSC) has published time-series computations of water-quality concentrations and loads based on in situ sensor data since 1995. Water-quality constituent concentrations or densities are computed using regression models that relate in situ sensor values to laboratory analyses of periodically collected samples.
Eighty Years of Cooperative Water Science
The Equus Beds aquifer in south-central Kansas is a primary water source for the city of Wichita. The Equus Beds aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) project was developed to help the city of Wichita meet increasing current and future demands. The Equus Beds ASR project is a recent part of an 80-year cooperative water science effort with the city of Wichita.
Effects of Aquifer Storage and Recovery Activities on Water Quality in the Little Arkansas River and
The Equus Beds aquifer in south-central Kansas is aprimary water source for the city of Wichita. The Equus Beds aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) project was developed to help the city of Wichita meet increasing current (2016) and future water demands. The Equus Beds ASR project pumps water out of the Little Arkansas River during above-base flow conditions, treats it using drinking-water quality standards as a guideline, and recharges it into the Equus Beds aquifer for later use.
