Interview

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, a manual one my dad passed down to me and an electric one with ink and erase cartridges I got for my Bar Mitzvah.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Skype, phone, recorder, computer, tablet, Office 365, email, social media, transcription service

Who do you wish followed you?

Al Franken because he taps into multiple areas of interest such as a humorist, American politician, and comedic writer.

Why did you become a journalist?

I love to investigate stories, pursue ideas, and talk with people about their lives.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I was a writer/editor. I'd say investigative journalist too, but it was high school and how many stories can one write about cafeteria food?

When's the best time to pitch you?

Anytime, anywhere, anyhow or as Billy Crystal said in "When Harry Met Sally" - 'Just pick up the phone and just phone moi'

What's your favorite drink?

A White Russian, although I have taken a recent interest in a Greyhound and a Fountain of Youth.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Sometimes I hit the garden, weeding's empowering, but mostly I do what my child wants (within reason), which isn't empowering but fun.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

I've written a lot of technical collateral, but I'm more the creative type. I just research the hell out of whatever I'm assigned to do.
