The present study employed a masked translation prime paradigm to investigate the nature of the trilingual mental lexicon. It was found that L3 (English) was primed only by L2 (Mandarin) and not by L1 (Korean), which further analysis showed to not be the result of L2 being dominant over L1. It was suggested that a formally learned L3 can be associated with only one of L1 or L2, and this association is influenced by the language in which L3 instruction was conducted.
Abstract The nature of the Chinese mental lexicon is described in this theoretical paper, with a particular focus on the way in which Mandarin is represented and processed, especially with regard to tonal information. Because an alphabetic script (i.e., pinyin) is adopted in China at the earliest stages of reading acquisition, an account is given of the way in which alphabetic orthography is processed, using English as the example.
Day 1: KRASNOYARSK Accommodation: Novotel or similar Upon arrival in Krasnoyarsk, we make our own way to our hotel. After freshening up, we head out as a group for a short city tour. Here we take in the important sites in the city, including Mira Square (Peace Square), the oldest square in historic Krasnoyarsk. The city’s historical gateway, the Arch of Triumph, stands here in the place of a tower of Krasnoyarsk Prison, which burned down in 1773. Mira Square offers a view of the Yenisey River.
