Have you ever used a typewriter?

Trick question to get me to say approx how old I am. But, yes, I used one when I was a kid and have photos to prove it.

How is social media changing news?

Social media allows individuals to disseminate news and information before it has been filtered by governments and mainstream media.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

William Boot from "Scoop" - and Lois Lane, of course.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Question "authority". Connect dots (about issues I think are important) for readers who focus on their day to day jobs.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I use Microsoft, work on a MacBook Pro, Ipad, Iphone 4, sometimes all at once. Twitter for breaking news, Tumblr for short blogs.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter for breaking news, Muck Rack to cut to the chase, LinkedIn to maintain self serious image, Tumblr for fotos/blog, FB for whining.

Why did you become a journalist?

To stay awake.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

See You in Court -- Tales of Torture from Mau Mau- era detention camps. Newsweek International.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
