Argentina strengthened its position in the European market during 2026.
Ecuador power cuts further disrupt country's shrimp industry
Ecuadorean shrimp processors can now expect power limitations through Oct. 20, the result of extended restrictions on electricity consumption from the national energy grid operator. According to a notification from CNEL EP emailed Oct. 14 to industry participants, at least some in the shrimp processing industry are being required to reduce their grid power demand to zero through Oct. 20. Inventory emerges as key force in Ecuador's shrimp market
Ecuador's shrimp market remains near historically depressed prices despite increasing exports as limited spot demand and persistent margin pressure suggest that the inventory throughout the supply chain may be exerting as much influence on market behavior as underlying consumption trends. As European shrimp demand shifts, Ecuador’s market faces a strategic choice
As weak demand and abundant global supply continue to pressure margins across the shrimp sector, European buyers are placing greater emphasis on varieties that help reduce waste and improve operational efficiency. One of the main beneficiaries of that trend appears to be individually quick-frozen shrimp, according to market participants.
Record Ecuadorian exports challenge the narrative of weak shrimp demand
Weak demand has dominated sentiment in the global shrimp market in recent months. Importers in the US have remained well supplied, European buyers have limited spot interest, and Chinese purchasers have continued to push for lower prices. Throughout June, market participants repeatedly described demand as cautious, inventories as elevated, and buying activity as largely limited to immediate requirements. The weak tone has weighed on prices.
