Have you ever used a typewriter?
I think the era of the typewriter was long over by the time I got into journalism! As a kid, I started off on a Compaq Presario all in one.
How is social media changing news?
It's further polarising news audiences as well as helping the spread of misinformation but you can't ignore the positives (access, reach).
What does it mean to be a journalist?
There's no simple answer. Be society's watchdog? Entertain? Inform? I think it's about giving audiences what they want *and* what they need.
What's your favorite social network?
I'm still a Twitter fan despite the growing toxicity, noise and disinformation. It's still a good place to discover and connect.
Why did you become a journalist?
It's simple: I love to write and I love learning new things.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Show up. Learn from your mistakes. Keep on pitching.
What's your favorite drink?
It's got to be a homemade margarita with plenty of salt and lime and a little spice.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Enjoying DIY projects, tinkering with gadgets, cooking, rewatching classic nineties TV (Buffy, Frasier, Friends, X-files).
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
Technology journalism is ofte seen as either the business end (M&As, seed finding) or gadget reviews but there's also the investigative side.
