Editor’s summary Dosage compensation of sex chromosomes can be mediated either by overexpressing genes in the heterogametic sex or by silencing one copy in the homogametic. These processes are complex but are usually mediated by long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs); however, they are difficult to study because they are not often shared broadly across species. Tenorio et al. examined the green anole and found that genes on the X chromosome are overexpressed in males.
